PULLMAN, Wash. – Brenda Wilson-Hale has been named vice president for university development and executive officer of the WSU Foundation.

The appointment was announced Thursday by WSU President Elson S. Floyd.

"Since joining the Foundation, Brenda Wilson-Hale has provided outstanding direction and leadership. I think she is the natural choice to take on the duties of vice president for university development," Floyd said.

"I could not be more pleased or excited to have been selected for this position. The breadth and scope of this world class organization, the caliber of faculty and staff, and the potential to endeavor as the leader of the team in place to garner private funds to raise WSU to new heights is a tremendous honor.  I thank President Floyd, the search committee and the Board of Governors for this decision," Wilson-Hale said.

Since March 2007, Wilson-Hale has served as senior vice president of the WSU Foundation. She came to WSU from Michigan State University, where she served as senior director of development. She has also held leadership roles in fundraising positions at DePaul University in Chicago, Morehouse School of Medicine and Spelman College, both in Atlanta.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Wayne State University in Detroit and her law degree from the same institution.

Larry Culver, chair of the WSU Foundation Board of Governors who also chaired the search committee for this position, said, “We are very impressed with her leadership abilities, her ability to work with groups and bring them together. Her expertise in development work will be a great asset for the foundation.”

Wilson-Hale succeeds Len Jessup, who stepped down from the position last May to rejoin the faculty in the College of Business.
