Alumnus to Present Initial WSU History Department Colloquium

PULLMAN, Wash. –Washington State University alumnus Matthew Godfrey will discuss “History as a Business: The Historian as Consultant,” at 12:10 p.m. Oct. 3 in Murrow Hall Room 55 in the first of a Fall series of colloquia presented by the WSU Department of History. This event is free and open to all.

As the history division manager and association historian for Historical Research Associates Inc., Godfrey conducts historical-legal studies on issues concerning federal reclamation and water rights, navigability of waterways, natural resource management on Indian reservations, ratification of Indian treaties and environmental cleanup. He has also worked on administrative histories for federal agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S.D.A. Forest Service and the National Park Service.

Godfrey’s areas of expertise include western American history, water rights and management, legislative history, administrative history, corporate history and oral history. The author of “Religion, Politics and Sugar: The Mormon Church, the Federal Government and the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company, 1907–1921” (Utah State University Press, 2007), Godfrey earned his doctorate in American and public history from WSU in 2001.
