Awards Presented to Certified Business Advisors

SPOKANE, Wash.– The Washington Small Business Development Center presented its $10 Million Club, $5 Million Club, $1 Million Club and 100 Jobs Club awards to several certified business advisors at its semi-annual statewide staff meeting.

The awards represent the amount of funding obtained by clients with a certified business advisor’s assistance, or the number of jobs created or saved as a result of a certified business advisor’s assistance. The awards recognize the importance of funding and jobs impacts to SBDC clients’ individual businesses as well as the importance of those impacts to local economies.

To gain entrance into the respective clubs, the certified business advisor’s aggregated clients must save or create at least 100 jobs and access capital and equity of at least $1 million, $5 million or $10 million and above.


A total of 19 certified business advisors were honored with $10, $5, or $1 Million Club awards and seven Certified Business Advisors received the 100 Jobs Club award. Among the list of $10 Million Club award winners were DeAnna Burnett-Keener (Green River Community College SBDC), Rick Thorpe (WSU/Spokane SBDC), Tom Dorr (Western Washington University SBDC), and David Young (WSU/Seattle SBDC).

The $5 Million Club award winners were Megan Watt (Western Washington University SBDC) and Kathleen Purdy (WSU/Olympic Peninsula SBDC).

The winners of the $1 Million Club award included Jan Harte (WSU/Vancouver SBDC), Michael Franz (WSU/Seattle SBDC), Zev Siegl (Highline Community College SBDC), Corey Hansen (Bellevue Community College SBDC), Jim Fletcher (Wenatchee Valley College SBDC), Bruce Davis (Columbia Basin College SBDC), Linda Koenes (Community Capital Development SBDC), Kirk Davis (Green River Community College SBDC), Rich Monacelli (Walla Walla Community College SBDC), Sherri Daymon (Western Washington University SBDC), John Rodenberg (WSU/Tacoma SBDC), Lewis Blakeney (Economic Alliance SBDC) and Ryan Patrick (EDA of Skagit County SBDC).

The 100 Jobs Club award was presented to Tom Dorr (Western Washington University SBDC), David Young (WSU/Seattle SBDC), Corey Hansen (Bellevue Community College SBDC), Linda Koenes (Community Capital Development SBDC), Rick Thorpe (WSU/Spokane SBDC), Kathleen Purdy (WSU/Olympic Peninsula SBDC) and Michael Franz (WSU/Seattle SBDC).

“It is my pleasure to recognize the hard work and dedication of these highly qualified and effective certified business advisors. Each is an outstanding business professional who takes pride in providing expert assistance to clients,” said Brett Rogers, state director of the Washington SBDC.

The SBDC provides no-charge confidential counseling and low-cost training to current and prospective business owners. It is a cooperative effort between Washington State University, Western Washington University, community colleges, economic development organizations and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
