PULLMAN, Wash. – V-Day WSU will hold auditions for this year’s benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues” from 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 3 and 5 at Washington State University in Wilson 13.
V-Day WSU, a registered student organization since 2002, invites anyone who identifies as a woman from the WSU campus and surrounding communities to audition for its eighth annual production of the award winning play by Eve Ensler.
No preparation or prior theatre experience is required to audition. On arrival, those interested will be asked to choose a monologue from a small selection and run through it in front of the production team.
Based on Ensler’s interviews with over 200 women, “The Vagina Monologues” tells the stories of real women and their experiences with intimacy, violence, and sexual self-discovery. Benefit productions of “The Vagina Monologues” have been performed in thousands of cities and college campuses across the world, raising over $70 million dollars for anti-violence programs across the globe.
In the past seven years, V-Day WSU has raised over $50,000. The majority of these resources have benefited the local community. Last year, V-Day WSU donated approximately $8,500 to Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse and $1,500 to the women and girls of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the spotlight group chosen by the national V-Day organization.
Amy Bergley, a WSU junior and this year’s director, said that anyone interested should audition. “Not only do you get the feeling of making a difference,” Bergley said, “but you’re also part of a diverse group of people who share one common goal – ending the violence.”
V-Day WSU is supported by Health and Wellness Services and is part of Health Advocates. If you are interested in auditions, production team meetings or would like more information, please contact Nichole Olson, V-Day graduate assistant at 509-335-7472 or vdaywsu@wsu.edu.
